Background
Mathieu Cuvelier received his master’s degree in law from Ghent University in 2017, after a previous master’s degree in political science (EU studies).
Mathieu has extensive experience in handling disputes within corporate and business law. He assists clients with corporate law issues with particular expertise in, among others, shareholder disputes, post-acquisition disputes, directors’ liability and conflicts between bare owners and usufructuaries of shares.
He also advises business owners on contract law issues such as the enforcement of contracts, breach of obligations, wrongful termination of negotiations and the annulment of contracts.
Furthermore, he has built a strong experience in judicial law, including in the context of evidence seizures, civil forgery, drafting of trial briefs and pleadings. Mathieu Cuvelier is also experienced in economic criminal law.
Thanks to this broad practical experience, Mathieu regularly acts before Belgian courts and tribunals, both in Dutch and in French. Since 2024, he has been a deputy judge at the Dutch-speaking business tribunal in Brussels.
Before joining Baker Tilly Law Belgium in 2025, he worked at a boutique firm at the Ghent Bar, specializing in corporate and business law.
